BIAFF Summer film school started

Batumi art house “Argani”/BIAFF International Film Festival is launching BIAFF summer school which will be held in Batumi during 28 July – 5 August, 2012.

Supporters –   “Open Society – Georgia Foundation” and Ministry of Batumi Education, Culture and Sport.

Partners – Batumi Art University, Shote Rustaveli state University of Theater and Cinema.

 Place and timing –  Batumi,  27 July – 5 August,  2012;  9 days, 6 hours per day.

The theme of summer school in 2012 –“Script Development”

The number of participants:   22 participants (Batumi and Tbilisi based young film makers)

Format of training – The summer school will incorporate in itself the training and discussions/analyses of practical cases. It will involves theoretical part, detailed/practice oriented lectures and combinations of practical work/case studies, review participants’ scripts etc.

Mackendrick on Film is an educational project constructed around British film director Alexander Mackendrick‘s legendary teachings on cinema, and takes as its starting point his book On Film-Making: An Introduction to the Craft of the Director, a 300-page collection of writings and sketches, edited by Paul Cronin with a foreword by Martin Scorsese.

Structured into nine parts, the project is based on Mackendrick’s book On Film-Making: An Introduction to the Craft of the Director and is designed to be a self-contained introduction to film-making. Constantly being re-worked, fine-tuned and augmented, Mackendrick on Film (flyer here) has been seen at colleges and festivals worldwide, including NYUUCLAUSCCalArts, theUniversity of London and the Tribeca Film Festival, as well as the Directors Guild of Great Britain and the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam. Mackendrick on Film is also screened regularly at the London Film School. A version has also been prepared for film festivals.

Participants – For selection purposes call for application was announced via BIAFF web-site, Facebook page, partners’ networks etc. During the selection BIAFF management used the following selection criteria:

– Previous films

– The film project or script idea for development

– Motivation letter

– Recommendation Letters
